Understanding funding
Switching Providers
You can change home care providers if you're not happy — here's exactly how, without losing your funding.
Step 1 — Check your notice period
Most providers require written notice (commonly 2–4 weeks). Check your current service agreement, or call us and we'll help you find out.
Step 2 — Choose your new provider
Let Silvergrace know you'd like to switch. We'll confirm we service your area and start the handover on our end.
Step 3 — Your funding transfers with you
Your approved budget level moves with you — you don't lose funding or need to be reassessed just because you're changing providers.
Jargon buster
- Service agreement
- The written agreement between you and your provider that sets out fees and notice periods.
- Exit fee
- A fee some providers used to charge when you left — these are banned under Support at Home.
- Handover
- The process of transferring your care details and remaining budget from your old provider to your new one.
Common questions
Will I be charged an exit fee to leave my current provider?+
No — exit fees are banned under the Support at Home program. If you're being asked to pay one, call the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
How long does switching take?+
Typically a few weeks, mostly dictated by your notice period with your current provider. We aim to make the Silvergrace side as fast and simple as possible.
