Understanding funding
How to Get Assessed
Step-by-step: what happens when you contact My Aged Care and what the assessment actually involves.
Step 1 — Contact My Aged Care
Call 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au to register. You can do this yourself, or a family member can do it with your permission.
Step 2 — Have your assessment
An assessor visits you at home (or speaks with you by phone) and asks about your daily life — what's easy, what's getting harder, and what would help.
Step 3 — Receive your approval letter
My Aged Care sends a letter confirming your approved support and your budget level. This letter can be confusing — call us and we'll explain exactly what it means for you.

Common questions
How long does an assessment take to arrange?+
Wait times vary, but it typically takes a few weeks from your first call to the assessment visit. Urgent situations can sometimes be prioritised — ask My Aged Care about this when you register.
Do I need to choose a provider before my assessment?+
No. You're assessed first and approved for a budget level, then you choose your provider — that's when you'd contact Silvergrace.
Still have questions? We're happy to talk it through.
